October 31, 2016

Every Monday, a volunteer from Junior Achievement will be covering Global Marketing.  As part of our studies with ancient man and ancient civilization, we learnt that man became a trader when farming became abundant.  It is easy to show pictures of farming and a lot harder for students to comprehend trade with a picture.  The Global Marketing program will give students a sense of trade in our modern day world and, hopefully, give a better understanding of trading during ancient times.

The following student numbers have to return the yellow Egypt Project agreement:
Period 2: 6,8,9,13,14,17,19,25
Period 6: 10,11,19,30
Your student's roster number should be recorded in his/her planner (binder reminder).

Homework till November 16
1.  Work on project 15-20 minutes a night.  Yes, you can work longer!
2.  Cornell Notes (review, revise, questions, summary)

Your student has a yellow sheet documenting the Egypt project that he/she is creating.  Parent/Guardian are signing the sheet to show that they are aware the project is due November 16.

In class, we are learning the project topics in parallel with the students' research.  Please encourage your student to work on the project nightly for 15-20 mins.

Those students doing the play should be able to do so without spending any money.  Costumes can be made from long poster papers that I can provide.  Props and costumes can be made from recycle products like plastic bottles or cardboard.

Homework:
(1) Signed Egypt Project form
(2) Nightly review and revise Cornell Notes.  Students should also add questions and summary.
(3) Work on projects every night for a minimum of 15-20 minutes.

Egypt Project Covering Chapter 2 Section 1 & 2

Due: Nov 16

Students will embark on a research project on Egypt as the class learns about ancient Egypt.
This project will give students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skill outside of a written assessment (test/quiz) in class.  Many students have had Social Science in fifth grade be a project run  class and have been challenged by demonstrating SS knowledge with a written assessment in class.

Details of the project can be seen in Google Classroom.  Students were given the option to select their project and the medium for demonstration of knowledge.

Students will bring a form home to parents/guardians.   Please sign and return the form in support of your student's project.
